I belong to a very small town , Born to extremely liberal parents , I was raised on a healthy dose of literature and activism. My mother teaches Economics in a government school and father is an entrepreneur. I grew up on the ideas of democracy, free will, and notions of liberty and equality. My mother gave me the gift of reading and instilled the concept of three Ws - when, where and most importantly ‘why’. I was groomed to think critically and see the non obvious behind the facade of normalcy. I was always told that education and hard work can change one’s destiny. I studied English literature in a prestigious college when everyone around declared it a suicidal step.Amidst the rattle of engineering and medicine,I chose literature as my heart was into it .In a bag full of coins, I realised later, i was the only currency note which did not make any sound, I worked hard instead and waited for my work to speak for me.I studied English literature with History and sociology and public administration. The whole endeavour gave me a sense of past and I started connecting the dots to understand the bigger picture . After my Bachelors, I joined M.A in English Literature from Panjab University which became a turning point in my life. I delved deep into literature and started understanding things from historical, sociological and feminist perspectives. I understood how ideology worked and how ‘norms’ were created. My second masters in Women Studies from Department &Center for Women Studies , Panjab University, gave me new horizons for a new thought , a new way to see old things. I taught English literature to undergraduate students in a prestigious college in Chandigarh. Currently ,I am doing my research work on ‘women and literature of post colonial era ’ which again makes me delve deep with women during that time . Women are the foundation of every society , and the foundation must remain strong , and after that one can well imagine the fate of the building. We, as a society, and on an individual level need to give women the ability to choose and decide for themselves .We have to help and create solid foundations for them, to give strength ,physical and mental to young girls. They deserve an equal share of opportunities and ‘their share of sky ‘. To give them hopes and dreams and a vision to fulfill their dreams.
