About Me

My name is neeraj . I have been playing Indian percussion drums since age 10 and classical percussion since age 12. During high school, I played Indian classical percussion drums in every possible situation that was presented to me: symphonic band, , percussion ensemble, orchestra, indoor drumline, and an indie rock band outside of school. In my junior and senior years of high school, I participated in lots of Solo competition, placing 3rd and 1st respectively for Indian classical percussion drum (tabla) solo. Just like in high school, at DU I took every opportunity to perform: percussion ensemble, , orchestra, jazz combos, solo's, and gigs outside of school. During my master degree study I learned a little bit about western percussion music like drums, Djambe, derbuka, bongo, Cajon, and many more western percussion instruments. Teaching students music is a real joy. Instilling a passion for music in a student's life keeps me going as a musician. I teach Indian classical and folk percussion drums and music theory to students. For tabla, I teach and play many styles: Classical/light with theory. Beginner to intermediate preferred. For classical percussion, I teach tabla , dholak, duff, percussion, and auxiliary. For music theory, I teach basic theory and advanced (playing technics, beat cycle knowledge, composition of classical percussion drums etc.) in classical, and folk styles.
